Synopsis

Greenville - fictional town on the coast of northeastern Brazil, built in the image of old England, due to the influence of the British, long before there had built the Great Western Railway. Proud of his city, said to be "a piece of England in Brazil," the greenvillenses strictly adhere to the British traditions, not abdicating or the afternoon tea, the five o'clock tea, and getting to mix English with Portuguese , always with the inconfudível northern accent.

For decades, manufacturers of sugar and molasses made this region a very wealthy place. Among them was the highlight Monguaba Plant, owned by the richest family in Greenville and traditional, the Mendonça and Albuquerque.

It all starts when Eulalia, the heiress of Monguaba, falls for cane cutter Ze Leandro, who lives with an intense romance. Suspicious, the Eulalia's older brother, Pedro Alfonso, fearing the true intentions of Ze Leandro, forbids dating, even threatening the boy to death. Fearing for the life of the beloved, Eulalia help him escape, while he vows to return one day to get it. Months later, Eulalia gives birth to a daughter, Lucia Helena (known only as Helena), whom he teaches to wait for his father.

Fifteen years later, a stranger named Faruk Theobald, son of Egyptian father (the deceased) and Brazilian mother, comes to town and soon becomes fascinated with Eulalia. However, she is still waiting for Joe Leandro. On the other hand, Mary Haughty, wife of Pedro Afonso, humiliates Tybalt, saying that a stranger without a penny is not worth approaching a Mendonça and Albuquerque. Tybalt vows revenge. Pedro Alfonso, gambling addict, owes money to several people who signed promissory notes.

One day, Joe Leandro returns, ready to flee with Eulalia and Helena with them and start a new life with a fortune in gems that manage to gather to work in mining. After combining the flight, Helen teaches the value of land, which she will never forget. However, the fleeing boat sinks and drowns Ze Leandro. Eulalia also died, asking you to trust Helen Theobald, who got rich.

Haughty was always a bad person. Twenty-eight years ago, his sister, Mary, the Santinha, then a teenager, lived a romance with the owner of the British Club, Richard Smith Taylor. Vexed with the happiness of her sister, who always hated for their kindness and sympathy, Haughty (already married to Pedro Afonso and mother of a son, Hercules) took advantage of a drunken Richard and in the dark, became sister to go through sleep with him. Santinha surprises them in bed and Haughty said he drugged and raped. Desperate, and believes Santinha breaks with Richard, who vows never to love another woman.

It is then that you discover Altiva pregnant and travels with Richard Santinha to hide the pregnancy. Hercules is the son of Pedro Afonso and Haughty. Mysterious, only appears in Greenville from time to time.
